Alamogordo to host July 4 reverse parade

Alamogordo Daily News - 4/7/2021

The City of Alamogordo will host a reverse parade as part of its July 4 celebrations, as New Mexico continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic and public health orders restricting mass gatherings.

The parade is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on July 4 at the Otero County Fairgrounds, 401 Fairgrounds Road in Alamogordo.

This year's theme is "Flying Colors" and the deadline to submit an application for entry in the parade is June 25. Organizers said that the parade would be canceled if there were too little entries.

A reverse parade is where the parade is stationary and people drive by the floats.

"In an effort to maximize the potential of having a great parade, the City of Alamogordo has teamed up with the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce, KHII Active Radio, Ruidoso KEDU, and Rock 97.9," a City of Alamogordo news release states.

If the public health orders become less restricted and allow a traditional parade, then the parade will be moved from the Otero County Fairgrounds to it's traditional location of Oregon Avenue to 10th Street down to New York Avenue.
