Michigan reports 10,293 new coronavirus cases, 21 deaths over 2-day period

Michigan has 10,293 newly confirmed coronavirus cases as of Monday, with the cases reported over a two-day period. This comes amid a reported surge in the state and the first day everyone ages 16 and older is eligible for vaccination.

That brings the state's total to 702,499 cases since the start of the pandemic, according to the newly released data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The state also on Monday reported 21 more COVID-19 deaths over the two-day period. This brings Michigan's death toll to 16,239.

Meanwhile, the state announced 84 new school-related outbreaks Monday. The largest, with 22 cases, is at Bay City Central High School in Bay County.

The state has another 245 ongoing outbreaks reported at schools. The 329 total outbreaks, with ongoing and new outbreaks combined, include 10,100 cases.

The positivity rate for tests in the state is 17.03%, with 6,206 positive results out of 36,438 diagnostic tests reported Sunday.

The state also has 77,475 probable COVID-19 cases and 1,043 probable COVID-19 deaths, for a total of 779,974 cases and 17,282 deaths, overall, across probable and confirmed cases, according to the state.
