4,794 new coronavirus infections and 22 deaths reported in Florida Sunday

News-Journal - 4/4/2021

Florida reported 4,794 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday as more than 6 million people in the state have now received at least one dose of a vaccine according to data from the Florida Department of Health.

According to the state information, there were 22 new coronavirus-related fatalities statewide while none were reported Sunday in Volusia and Flagler counties. The statewide death toll stands at 33,674. That total includes 726 in Volusia County and 99 in Flagler County.

On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported six new cases of P.1 COVID-19 variant and and one case of B.1.351 in the state — meaning there are more than 2,400 cases caused by COVID variants in Florida.

The News-Journal has sent multiple requests to the state over the past month for an updated list of variant cases by county. During that time, The News-Journal received just one response — on March 24 — which said the request had been received and sent to a team for processing.
