BRIEF: Former Lubbock resident writes true crime book 'Toxic Rage'

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal - 10/12/2018

Oct. 12--Former Lubbock resident and longtime journalist A.J. Flick has announced the release of her first book, a true crime story of the 2004 murder of Dr. Brian Stidham. "Toxic Rage: A Tale of Murder in Tucson" is published by WildBlue Press.

Print, digital and audio books are being sold on Amazon, publishing website WildBluePress.com, and in select bookstores.

"I covered this case from the beginning as a reporter for the now-defunct Tucson Citizen newspaper," said Flick.

"While many in Tucson, and around the country, followed the murder and subsequent trials for Dr. Brad Schwartz and Bruce Bigger, this book contains much of the story that did not it into newspaper stories or TV news reports."

Stidham was found stabbed to death in the parking lot of his midtown Tucson medical office complex on Oct. 5, 2004. Early in the case, suspicion fell upon fellow eye surgeon Schwartz; prosecutors said he hired Bigger to kill Stidham out of a "toxic rage" that grew from professional jealousy.

Flick moved to Lubbock in the 1980s to work in the features department at the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, and later worked as a journalist in Washington, D.C., Phoenix and Tucson.
