BRIEF: LVHN's annual free flu shots scheduled for first weekend of November

Morning Call - 10/2/2018

Oct. 02--Lehigh Valley Health Network will give out free flu shots Nov. 3 at Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom and Nov. 4 at Coca-Cola Park.

Through two decades, the annual drive-through flu shot event has given out 160,000 flu shots. People who get the flu shots have a lower-risk of getting the flu or spreading the flu.

Those who are six months old to 64 years old will receive a flu vaccine that protects against four flu strains. Those 65 and older will be offered a trivalent high-dose vaccine.

"Influenza has already been identified in our area," Said Terry Burger, LVHN's director of infection control and prevention. "Last year was reported to be the worst flu season in the US in two decades. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 80,000 deaths associated with the flu last year alone. There were 180 deaths among children. Getting the vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and those around you from getting the flu."

Those planning to get flu shots at LVHN's drive-through clinic should fill out a consent form.

Online registration is available at LVHN.org/flushot.
