Walmart Wellness Day on Saturday

LOGAN - It's being called the largest health fair in the country and Hocking County is part of it.

The Walmart in Logan is getting ready to have its Walmart Wellness Day on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Folks are encouraged to stop for health checks including: blood glucose; blood pressure; body mass index, vision screenings and low-cost immunizations depending on insurance.

Walmart Pharmacy Manager Anthony Figliola said the preventative immunizations include the tetanus shot.

"With springtime rolling around here - tetanus is one that people lack getting or don't remember if it's been more than 10 years," Figliola shared. "We also have pneumonia and there's a new shingles shot that recently became available. It's called Shingrix, which is roughly 90 percent effective in preventing shingles outbreaks."

The pharmacy manager said it's important to note that in order get the shingles vaccine, people must meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

Figliola communicated that statistics show that one in three Americans have pre-diabetes and more than 30 million Americans are diabetic.

"A lot of people don't know. We can help people who may be diabetic or those who are hypertensive," he continued. "It's a quick and easy way to help people come in and get screened. They may not have a primary care physician or the time."

He said the screens are a proactive approach to making sure folks know their current health conditions and don't harm their bodies.

The Walmart Wellness Day is also helpful to staff members so they can get to know the customers, their medications and help them lead fuller lives.

There will be an area set up between the pharmacy and the vision center and no appointments are necessary.
