HUNTINGTON- Senior Fest returns to Cabell Huntington Hospital for a day of healthy fun for those 50 and older from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the hospital's main campus in Huntington.

Having been postponed in 2016 due to the construction of the now-complete hospital parking garage, the annual Senior Fest makes its return with a full slate of free services for seniors, turning the hospital's main atrium into a one-stop shop for a number of common focuses for seniors.

Physicians and staff will be on hand throughout the day offering advice and health screenings for, but not limited to, blood pressure, blood sugar, prostate, as well as free flu shots.

For seniors in particular, the flu can be extremely serious, even deadly. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 90 percent of flu-related deaths and more than half of flu-related hospitalizations occur in seniors each year.

A flu shot is the easiest way to prevent the flu.

Educational seminars, games, live entertainment, food and prizes will round out a day highlighting Cabell Huntington's dedications to the health and well-being of seniors, said Teresa Sexton, director of Nursing and Senior Services.

Senior Fest is a fun way for seniors to gain knowledge about their health options," Sexton said in a hospital release. "They have the opportunity to have immunizations and screenings, enjoy music and entertainment and relax with a good meal.

It is all free of charge.

"Senior All-Stars" is the theme for the 2017 Senior Fest with a focus on aging healthy. Past years have brought hundreds of seniors to each event annually.

Pre-registration may be made online at www.cabellhuntington.org or by calling Senior Services at 304-526-2520.
