Seacoast AIDS Walk on Sunday

PORTSMOUTH — AIDS Response Seacoast will host the 21st annual Seacoast AIDS Walk on Sunday, May 7.

The scenic 5K walk through downtown Portsmouth will begin and end at City Hall on Junkins Avenue. Registration will start at 1 p.m. with the walk itself beginning at 2 p.m. Advance registration encouraged at http://ARSWalk.kintera.org. The registration fee is $20 for adults and $10 for children age 12 and under. People can sign up as individuals or create teams. The website also has an area for those interested in the dog walk.

More than 50,000 Americans become infected with HIV each year of which 1 in 4 is between the age of 13 and 24. The Centers for Disease Control estimates more than 1 million people are living with HIV in the United States. One in five of those people is unaware of their infection.

Founded in 1987, AIDS Response Seacoast is a nonprofit community-based AIDS Service Organization dedicated to providing education, direct assistance and advocacy for persons and communities affected by HIV/AIDS. ARS is based in Portsmouth and serves Rockingham and Strafford counties. All services are provided without cost to anyone infected with HIV.
