BRIEF: County to get $100K for public health needs

March 27--Victoria County Commissioners are expected to accept more than $100,000 in public health-related funds at their Monday meeting.

The Victoria County Public Health Department was awarded a $100,296 federal grant to enhance the county's emergency health preparedness capabilities.

Victoria County will contribute $10,030 to receive the grant.

Among the 15 public health emergency capabilities Victoria County is looking to enhance are its ability to withstand and recover in the short and long term from public health crises and its emergency public information and warning systems.

Commissioners also are expected to accept a $30,151 grant from the state of Texas for its tuberculosis prevention and control program.

The funds will go toward personnel needs in the public health department.

Victoria County will contribute $5,025 to receive the funding.
