Restaurant honored with food safety excellence award for past four years

Jan. 23--LEWISBURG -- Lois Svard said Reba and Pancho's Restaurant, "has the best food in the area."

"I have food issues and there are some things I can't eat, but they're very accommodating here," she said. "The food is always delicious."

"You can't go to too many restaurants and ask them to do this and take this out," said staff member Patty Bardole.

Co-owner Bekah Meixell said their dedication to their customers is the reason why Reba and Pancho's has clinched the Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association Excellence in Food Safety Award for the past four years.

During the judging period, inspectors visited their restaurant to evaluate all of their activities, from how they organize their refrigerator to how they receive their food to how they handle customers' allergies.

"We really care about what we do for customers," added Meixell's husband and business partner Atanasio Reyes. "What our customers eat, we eat."

Reba and Pancho's mission is to provide healthy and ecologically sustainable meal options to the community. Their menu includes Mediterranean, Mexican, and American cusine, according to their website.

Meixell said they make sure to be informed and open to new possibilities to expand their menu.

Starting this year, the restaurant will now feature a full bar. "A full bar is a natural extension of a restaurant and a good way to enhance the dining experience," she explained. "We are finding the hidden treasures that aren't recognized yet and celebrating them. Find us, we do the rest."

Meixell said this flexibility and passion for creating a good service, "is the part and parcel of being a chef," she said.

"When you sit down, eat good food, have good company and enjoy the moment, the world is a better place," she said.

Reba and Pancho's is open Wednesday to Friday from noon to 2 p.m. for lunch and Wednesday through Saturday from 5 to 9:30 p.m. for dinner. However, Meixell said their dining hours are flexible as long as you call ahead. Take out is also available.
