FOOD INSPECTIONS: 4 York County establishments out of compliance

May 02--The state Department of Agriculture conducts annual inspections of food-serving businesses to ensure public safety and safe food-handling practices. Schools are inspected twice per year, according to the Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratories.
Whether an establishment is considered compliant or non-compliant is the discretion of the inspector. There are, however, several violations for which inspectors should automatically consider establishments non-compliant. Called "critical violations," they include food temperature issues, employee hygiene and issues with chemicals and how they're handled.
Depending on the severity of the situation, inspectors and their supervisors could file citations or close an establishment.
Below is a list of establishments that were inspected April 20-26.
OUT OF COMPLIANCE
Regular inspections:
Eberly's Smoked Meats, 1041 Richmond Road, Windsor, 9 violations
Action: Violations included no records indicating smoked meats are properly cooled; improper food labeling; no available sanitizer test strips; hardened food debris observed on cutting blade of electric meat slicer; no lab testing results for water potability of non-public water system; records not organized; and reduced oxygen packaging used for smoked and raw meats without written procedures.
Anza's Pizza, 616 E. Market St., 15 violations
Action: Violations included food stored with no covering; improper food labeling; slicer observed with food residue; pizza prep table observed with food residue; clean food equipment stored wet; floors throughout the facility are cracked; soap not available at hand wash sink; food employees not wearing proper hair restraints; food stored under black mold-like substance due to roof damage; racks in walk-in cooler are rusted; non-food contact surfaces not cleaned frequently enough; hand wash sink in warewashing area dirty and inaccessible; mops not being hung to air dry; ceiling in storage area is damaged; front window observed dirty and dusty; and accumulation of static dust observed on fixtures above pizza prep table.
Note: This is the second time this restaurant has been ruled out of compliance since February 2014.
Tacos La Cuesta, 5145 N. Susquehanna Trail, 3 violations
Action: Violations included mobile food facility generator not functioning and can't provide electricity to hot water heater; no electricity to operate refrigeration; and lack of hot and cold water under pressure.

Follow-ups:
Shangri-la, 2150 White St., 5 violations
Action: Violations included shelving not cleaned frequently enough; floor in walk-in cooler made of wood or corroded metal; buckets filled with raw chicken lined up outside walk-in cooler with no covering; underside of shelf observed with food residue; and floor under fryers extremely dirty and greasy.
Note: This is the second time this restaurant has been ruled out of compliance during April.
