Water shut off at hand-washing sink in area restaurant affects health score

Jan. 22--Spindletop Restaurant, 1480 West Freeway Blvd. in Vidor, received an 86 out of a possible 100 during a recent routine health code inspection. The restaurant received demerits for the need of hair restraints, the water turned off at the hand-washing sink, and equipment in need of being repaired.

Smokers Express, 1050 16th Street in Orange, received a health score of 90 during a routine inspection. Demerits included the need for towels inside the restroom and slight mold found on the slushi machine.

Get-N-Go, 1150 Texas Ave. in Bridge City, received a score of 90 for chemicals stored above paper goods and slime inside the ice machine during a recent inspection.

Kwick Stop #4, 3110 16th Street in Orange, received a health score of 90 during a routine inspection.

Demerits included motor oil stored above pet foods, several expired food items on the shelves and in need of cleaning the floors throughout.

Novrozsky's Restaurant, 1035 North Main Street in Vidor, received a 90 out of a possible 100 during a recent routine health code inspection. Demerits included storing raw chicken above raw onions and shrimp risking possible cross contamination.

Little Caesar's Pizza, 2421 16th Street in Orange, received several demerits during a recent routine inspection resulting in a health score of 90. Demerits included an employee eating pizza in the back store room, a pizza found on storage racks for dry goods, employee drinks without a lid or straw, improper jewelry and fingernails, as well as employees on cell phones, and the need for a certified food manager on staff. The Restaurant was given 20 days to obtain a certificate.

Several items expired from 2013-2014 were pulled from the shelves at Texas Food Store, 305 Burton Ave. in Orange resulting in a score of 90. Other demerits included several spider webs found in the storage room, and mold on the slushi machine.

Cypress Plaza #1, 7014 North Highway 87 in Orange, received a 92 during a recent routine inspection. Demerits included the hot water temperature was too low for proper sanitization. The health report notes the inspector will follow-up with the store.

Buckets of seasonings were found on the floor at Market Basket Deli #4, 3709 North 16th Street in Orange, contributing to a health score of 93.

Dollar Tree #1193, 170 Strickland Drive in Orange, had several dented cans pulled from the shelf during a recent routine inspection. The store received a health score of 93 out of a possible 100.

Family Dollar #4946, 1540 Strickland Drive in Orange, received a health score of 93 out of a possible 100 for several dented cans found through out, and a freezer with an ice buildup on foods.

Wendy's #50, 3113 Edgar Brown Drive in Orange, received a 94 out of a possible 100 during a recent health inspection. Demerits included old foods left on the vegetable slicer.

Papa John's Pizza, 2305 MacArthur Drive in Orange, received a health score of 97 for the need to replace or repair storage racks above the sinks.

Sonic Drive-in #5783, 2210 State Hwy. 62 in McLewis, received a 97 for the need to clean floors, equipment and storage shelves through out the restaurant.

Taco Bell #2680, 835 Texas Ave. in Bridge City, received a 97 during a recent routine inspection for floors in need of being cleaned of old foods and slight mold found on the drink dispensers.

California Corn Dog Stand, 795 Texas Ave. in Bridge City, received a score of 97 for the need to clean the floors under the counter.

Dollar General #12697, 1752 Farm to Market Road 105 in Vidor, received a97 during a recent routine inspection for the need to clean the shelves inside the milk cooler.

North Star Children's Center, 5830 North Main Street in Vidor, received a 97 for the need to clean inside the cabinets.

Market Basket #4, 3709 North 16th Street in Orange, received a 97 out of a possible 100 during a recent routine inspection for the need to clean the floors n the back storage room, inside the milk cooler and inside the walk-in freezers.

CVS Pharmacy #6381, 2425 North 16th Street in Orange, received a health score of 97 for the shelves inside the milk cooler in need of b being cleaned.

Dairy Queen, 11785 North State Hwy. 62 in Mauriceville, received a score of 97 for the need to clean the area above the grill and fryers of old grease.

Valero Corner Store #377, 7253 Interstate 10 in Orange, received a 97 for the need to clean under the milk inside the walk-in cooler.

The following locations had zero violations and received a perfect score of 100:
