BRIEF: Giant recalls peppers for possible salmonella contamination

Oct. 23--Giant Food Stores is recalling four types of peppers due to possible salmonella contamination.

Serrano, Anaheim, Red Cherry Hot and Finger Hot Peppers purchased at Giant on or after Oct. 9 could have been contaminated, the company said in a news release.

Giant advised customers who think they may have purchased these products to discard any remaining portions and bring their purchase receipt to any Giant store for a full refund. Those without a purchase receipt can also bring in the remaining produce to get the refund.

Giant said in the news release that they have received no reports of illnesses resulting from the potential Salmonella contamination. They cautioned that salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially among those with weak immune systems. Common manifestations of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever.
